Mechanic completing careful vehicle repair work in the workshop

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a roadworthy certificate?

A Roadworthy Certificate is a safety inspection report that confirms a vehicle meets minimum safety standards at the time it is inspected. It is not a statement that the vehicle is perfect, fully rebuilt, or free from every future issue. Our job is to assess the relevant safety items properly, explain the result clearly, and help you understand what is required if the vehicle does not pass the inspection the first time.

Does an RWC mean perfect condition?

No. A roadworthy certificate does not mean the vehicle is in perfect condition or that every mechanical, cosmetic, or long-term issue has been fixed. It means the vehicle met the required minimum safety standards at the time of inspection. We make this clear because many people assume a roadworthy means the car has been fully overhauled, and that is not what the certificate is designed to represent.

What happens if you fail it?

If your vehicle fails the roadworthy inspection, we explain the reason for the failure and what needs attention before it can be re-inspected. We do not make the process difficult or confusing. Roadworthy standards are safety-based and regulated, so if something does not meet the required standard, it must be addressed before certification can be issued. We can also quote the required repairs and carry them out with your approval.

How long for re-inspection after failure?

If repairs are needed after a failed roadworthy inspection, you have 14 days to repair the vehicle and bring it back for a second inspection. We explain the failed items clearly so you understand what is required and why. If you would like us to carry out the repairs, we can manage the work and re-inspection process in the same workshop, which helps keep things simpler and more efficient.

Can you service my vehicle too?

Yes. In addition to roadworthy inspections, we provide full mechanical servicing and repairs from our Sunshine North workshop. That includes logbook servicing, minor and major servicing, brakes, suspension, steering, batteries, starters, alternators, fluid leaks, belts, diagnostics, cooling system repairs, transmission and clutch work, air conditioning service and regas, tyres, wheel alignment, balancing, and exhaust and emissions repairs. Many customers choose us because we can inspect, repair, and certify the vehicle in one place.

Do you work on most vehicles?

Yes. We work on most makes and models and service a wide range of vehicle types, including cars, utes, vans, 4WDs, SUVs, and light commercial vehicles. We also work on petrol, diesel, hybrid, and many European vehicles. If you are unsure whether your vehicle is suitable for a particular service, contact us and we will let you know.

How do you prefer bookings made?

We accept bookings by phone, text, email, and walk-in, but we prefer phone calls or walk-ins where possible. That is usually the best way for us to ask the right questions, understand what the vehicle needs, and give you a clearer idea of the next steps. We also recommend booking in advance, especially if you need a roadworthy inspection or time-sensitive repair work.

Why choose your Sunshine North workshop?

Customers choose us because we are not just a general mechanic who also does RWCs. We position ourselves as roadworthy specialists who also provide reliable servicing and repairs. We focus on honest advice, plain-English explanations, approval before repairs, fair pricing, and practical help when a vehicle needs inspection, repairs, and certification handled properly in one place. We aim to make the process low-stress, clear, and professional from start to finish.

Do you inspect and repair in-house?

Yes. We handle inspections, diagnosis, repairs, and re-inspections from the same workshop. That is one of the main advantages of using us for roadworthy certificates and mechanical work. You do not have to organise separate businesses for inspection and repairs, and you are not left guessing what happens next. We assess the vehicle, explain the findings, quote the work, complete approved repairs, and carry out the final checks before handover.

How does your booking process work?

When you contact us, we ask a few quick questions about the vehicle, what you need done, and your timeframe. Once we understand whether you need an RWC, servicing, or repairs, we book the next suitable time. When you arrive, we confirm the job details and discuss any concerns such as warning lights, noises, handling problems, starting issues, or leaks. From there, we inspect the vehicle, explain the result, provide a quote if repairs are needed, and complete the work once you approve it.

What happens when I drop off?

When you drop your vehicle off, we confirm the reason for the visit and make sure we understand any symptoms or concerns you have noticed. If it is a roadworthy inspection, we inspect the required safety components. If it is a service or repair booking, we assess the issue and check for anything relevant that may need your attention. We keep the process organised and clear so you know what stage your vehicle is at and what the next step will be.

Do you explain problems in simple language?

Yes. We believe customers should understand what their car needs without being overwhelmed by jargon. We explain what we found, why it matters, what is required now, and what can wait if applicable. That approach helps customers feel informed and comfortable instead of pressured or confused. It is also one of the reasons many people come back to us for future servicing and repairs.

What if you find extra issues?

If we find additional issues during a service or roadworthy inspection, we stop and assess the situation before doing extra work. We contact you, explain what we found in simple terms, provide a revised quote, and only continue if you approve it. In some cases, we may prefer you to come to the workshop so we can show and explain the issue more clearly. We do not proceed with unexpected repairs without your consent.

Do you do logbook servicing properly?

Yes. We normally carry out logbook servicing according to manufacturer requirements. If you would prefer not to have a full logbook service, we can record the work as a minor service instead. This gives you flexibility while still allowing us to service the vehicle based on what you want done. If you are unsure which option suits your vehicle and budget, we can explain the difference when you book in.

What servicing options do you offer?

We provide logbook servicing, scheduled maintenance, minor servicing, major servicing, oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks. We tailor the work to the vehicle’s needs and the type of booking you request. Some customers come in for routine maintenance, while others come in because they are noticing symptoms that need diagnosis. In either case, we inspect the vehicle carefully, explain the condition clearly, and recommend the work that makes sense.

Can you help with brake problems?

Yes. Brake work is one of our core service areas and one of the most common reasons customers book with us. We carry out brake inspections, brake repairs, brake pad replacement, brake disc machining or replacement, brake fluid flushes, and handbrake adjustment or replacement. If your braking feels weak, noisy, uneven, or unsafe, we can inspect the system and explain exactly what needs attention before carrying out any approved repairs.

Do you repair suspension and steering?

Yes. We repair suspension and steering systems for customers who are dealing with poor handling, unusual noises, worn shocks or struts, or steering-related concerns. Our suspension and steering work includes shock replacement, strut replacement, steering repairs, power steering repairs, and handling checks. This is also an area we want customers to know us for, because proper suspension and steering condition plays a major role in road safety, comfort, and roadworthy compliance.

Can you replace batteries and starters?

Yes. We provide battery testing, battery replacement, starter replacement, alternator replacement, charging checks, and no-start diagnosis. If your vehicle is struggling to start, losing charge, or showing signs of an electrical starting or charging issue, we can inspect the system and identify the likely cause. We explain the findings clearly and only proceed with repairs or replacements once you approve the quote.

Do you fix leaks and belts?

Yes. We handle fluid leak diagnosis, leak repairs, belt replacement, pulley replacement, and a wide range of general mechanical repairs. Small leaks or worn belts can turn into more serious problems if ignored, so it is worth having them checked early. We inspect the issue properly, explain what is causing it, and recommend the most suitable repair based on the vehicle’s condition.

Can you diagnose engine-related faults?

Yes. We provide engine diagnostics and repairs, including fault scanning, engine repairs, timing belt replacement, head gasket repairs, and fuel system repairs. If your vehicle has warning lights, poor performance, rough running, or another engine-related concern, we can inspect and diagnose the problem before quoting any repair work. We focus on giving you a clear explanation so you can make an informed decision.

Do you handle tyres and alignment?

Yes. We provide tyre fitting, tyre replacement, wheel alignment, wheel balancing, tyre rotation, and puncture repairs. Tyres and wheel alignment affect how safely and smoothly the vehicle drives, and they can also influence handling, braking, and tyre wear. If you have uneven wear, vibration, poor tracking, or a damaged tyre, we can assess the issue and recommend the right service.

Can you fix overheating problems?

Yes. We carry out cooling system and overheating repairs, including radiator replacement, water pump replacement, thermostat replacement, cooling fan replacement, hose replacement, and overheating diagnosis. If your vehicle is running hot, losing coolant, or showing signs of cooling system trouble, we can inspect it and explain the cause. Cooling problems should be addressed promptly because ongoing overheating can lead to more serious damage.

Do you repair transmissions and clutches?

Yes. We provide transmission servicing, gearbox repairs, automatic repairs, manual repairs, clutch replacement, and differential service. If you are noticing slipping, difficulty shifting, unusual noises, or other driveline concerns, we can assess the condition and advise on the required repair or service. As with all our work, we explain the issue clearly and quote before proceeding.

Do you service air conditioning systems?

Yes. We provide air conditioning service and regas, including aircon servicing, aircon regas, cooling checks, leak testing, aircon repairs, and performance checks. If your air conditioning is not cooling properly or is showing signs of a leak or performance issue, we can inspect the system and recommend the right repair or service to restore performance.

Can you repair exhaust and emissions?

Yes. We carry out exhaust and emissions repairs including exhaust repairs, muffler repairs, catalytic replacement, DPF service, EGR replacement, and emissions checks. If your vehicle is louder than usual, showing emissions-related issues, or experiencing performance concerns linked to the exhaust system, we can inspect the problem and advise on the required work.

Do you use genuine or aftermarket parts?

We use genuine parts and quality aftermarket parts, depending on availability and your budget. In Australia, some items are also replaced using second-hand parts where appropriate. We do not take a one-size-fits-all approach because the right option can vary from one repair to another. If there is a choice to make, we explain the options and help you decide based on practicality, cost, and suitability for the job.

Do you offer warranty on repairs?

Yes. Our standard warranty is 6 months or 10,000 km, whichever comes first, and it covers most repairs. There are important exceptions, though. Second-hand parts have a maximum 3-month warranty, and electrical parts also have a maximum 3-month warranty. We prefer to be clear about that upfront so you know exactly what applies to the work carried out on your vehicle.

Can I see the replaced old parts?

Yes. We keep old parts, and if you would like to see what was replaced, we can show them to you when you collect the vehicle. That is part of our transparent approach. We want customers to feel confident that the work has been done properly and that they can ask questions about what was replaced and why.

Do you work with fleet vehicles?

Yes. We work with fleet vehicles and tradie vehicles as part of our regular customer base. We understand that these vehicles need dependable servicing and repairs to stay safe, compliant, and on the road. Whether you manage several work vehicles or rely on one vehicle every day for your trade, we aim to provide practical support, clear communication, and efficient workshop handling.

Which areas do you commonly serve?

We are based in Sunshine North and regularly help customers from Sunshine West, Taylors Lakes, Albion, Braybrook, Footscray, West Footscray, Keilor, and Deer Park. If you are looking for a mechanic or roadworthy inspection in Sunshine North or nearby western suburbs, our workshop is set up to help with both everyday servicing and more urgent RWC-related work.

Do you have a waiting area?

Yes. We have a waiting area available at the workshop. Many customers also choose to leave their vehicle with us while we complete the inspection, service, or repair. We offer flexible booking options, and in some situations we may be able to drop customers home or to the nearest train or bus station on request, but that is not a standard inclusion for every booking.

What are your business hours?

We are open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. On Saturdays, we are open from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm by appointment only. If you are planning a Saturday visit, it is best to book ahead so we can reserve a suitable time for your vehicle.

How can you pay for work?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, bank card, bank transfer, and cash. If you have a question about payment at the time of booking or collection, we are happy to explain the available options so there is no confusion when the job is completed.

Should you book in advance?

Yes, we recommend booking in advance wherever possible. Advance bookings help us plan workshop time properly, especially for roadworthy inspections, servicing, and repairs that may need parts or follow-up work. If your matter is time-sensitive, let us know when you call and we will do our best to book the next suitable slot.

Why do customers trust your advice?

Customers trust our advice because we focus on being clear, honest, and practical. We explain what the vehicle needs, why it needs it, what it will cost, and when the work can be done. We do not believe in talking down to customers or hiding behind technical language. Our approach is built around straightforward communication, approval before repairs, and workmanship that supports safety and long-term reliability.
